It is situated on the southeastern shore of Lake Okeechobee, the largest freshwater lake in the state of Florida. It is known for its sugarcane farming and is home to the U.S. Sugar Corporation headquarters. The area also has a number of fishing and hunting camps. The closest city is Belle Glade, located about 10 miles to the east.
